High StreetDAY+NIGHT Uptown Program is an initiative that’s all about invigorating the local night-time economy by supporting Penrith’s CBD focus on attracting an increase in visitors and bolstering Western Sydney’s burgeoning food and beverage industry.
– Jess Jenkins, Project Lead and District Coordinator – Local business owner
The mission of the project is to create a safe and attractive entertainment district—to build a strong night-time economy that is not only respectful and welcoming but also supportive of both local residents and businesses. By fostering an environment that attracts both visitors and the worker economy, Penrith CBD is positioned as a hub of opportunity and growth.
Penrith is part of Australia’s most significant future economic corridor, benefiting from its strategic position and infrastructure. With the new airport on the horizon, Penrith’s population is projected to grow by 60,000 in the next two decades. The Western Sydney catchment area is forecasted to increase by over 900,000 people by 2031. These statistics underscore the region’s potential for economic prosperity and community development.
While currently serving as a vibrant hotspot for locals, the project aims to extend its reach across Sydney and beyond. A comprehensive strategy to enhance Penrith’s 24-hour economy is paramount. This includes developing a superior night-time transport network and reimagining streetscapes with improved pathways, enhanced lighting, and art installations. Such improvements will create an inviting atmosphere that complements the dynamic venues within the precinct, drawing a diverse array of visitors to Western Sydney.
– Richard Fox, President, Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce
