The Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the announcement that Qantas and Jetstar will commence passenger services from Western Sydney International Airport, describing it as another significant milestone in the region's economic transformation.

The Chamber acknowledges the long-term leadership and advocacy of Business Western Sydney and Executive Director David Borger, who has championed the airport project for more than a decade.

Penrith Valley Chamber President Richard Fox said the announcement reinforced the growing confidence in Western Sydney's future.

David Borger summed it up perfectly when he said, 'The airport gives us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape Western Sydney's economy.' Today's announcement is another important step towards realising that opportunity.

The commitment from Qantas and Jetstar follows earlier announcements from Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines and strengthens Western Sydney International Airport's position as a future domestic and international gateway.

Western Sydney International Airport is far more than an aviation project. It is an economic development platform that will drive jobs, investment, tourism and business growth across our region.

Fox said Penrith was uniquely positioned to benefit from the airport, with attractions including the Nepean River, Penrith Beach, Penrith Whitewater Stadium, Panthers, adventure tourism experiences and direct access to the Blue Mountains.

The Chamber also supports Business Western Sydney's call for a refreshed Western Sydney Visitor Economy Strategy.

The airport may be the gateway, but it is the experiences we create across Western Sydney that will determine our long-term success. We need a coordinated vision that supports new accommodation, major events, tourism experiences and destination marketing.

The Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce will continue to work with key stakeholders and advocacy groups to maximise the economic and visitor economy opportunities created by Western Sydney International Airport.
